ANJANVEL FORT :- ONE OF 350 FORTS.
Anjanvel fort is one of the important fort in Ratnagiri district.It is also in as Gopalgad.
It is the part of Malabar sea coast.It is hill fort nearer to the sea.

GEOGRAPHICAL AREA
It is located in Chiplun Area in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra near to Malabar sea coast.Its location is on point which is a trading route.This route runs till Govindgad from the river name Vaishisti.It is one of busiest route in ancient time.It is located at hill but also called as sea fort due to which it guards the sea and keep eye on sea trades.
It has 12 buruj and strong fort wall. There are two main gate at East as well as west.The west gate is smaller compared to eastern one.
PRESENT SITUATION
Now it is in poor condition with some walls fallen.One can found remanants of well and walls inside the fort.Beautiful orchard is on the fort which is block due to some issues.But there is lot to see still .Now it is under the ownership of Indian government.
HISTORY.
Gopalgad is believed to be build by Siddisad ,the sardar of Bijapur dynasty .But evidence are not there about this.Bijapur dynasty was handling this fort during 1500 century as there is Persian scripture .It was later occupied by Maratha empire i.e Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj.Then in 1699 it was captured siddi of janjira.Then it was again captured by peshwas and become headquarter of cloth weaving and other.Then again it was handed to British in 1818.
About name there is no specificity about fort .Some believed that it was due to his killedar name was Gopal Rao , during reign of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.Some says during Tuloji Angre reign as he was a indigenous krishna bhakt.
PLACES TO SEE
Fantabulous places to see on the fort.Fort is spread around 7 acres of area. It is a rectangular in shape two main gate eastern and western. It has 15 bastions on outer wall. One can see here a person scripture on stone.Fort is beautiful to see which is made of latteritic rock.
Fort is divided into three sections :-Varchakot ,parekot and balekot. one small entrance opens in parekot. There is a talkeshwar temple near the fort.There was mango orchard which was now blocked.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The best time to visit here is between the month of September to December.One should visit here by morning for trekking.
Monsoon is also good as to enjoy cold and rain here as well as sea.
HOW TO REACH
Nearest town is Guhagar with great options of accommodation , food and all.
While on fort ,one need to carry food and water ( 2L per person enough ).

Mumbai Airport is nearest from there you have to choose railway or roadways .Its cost may above 10,000 Rs (depends)
By Railway
Chiplun is nearest railway station.May you got local railway from there(not confirmed) .It is connected to Mumbai and Goa.From Guhagar it is about 40 km.It may cost 1000 Rs per person (depends).
By Roadways
You may got any bus till Guhagar being famous destination point.St bus , rickshaw or private vehicle many options are there.Cost depends.

It take about to 3hr from anjanvel to fort and climbing fort.It faves a breathtaking feeling
