AGASHI FORT: UNKNOWN FORT OF 350 FORTS OF MAHARASHTRA.
The Agashi fort is one of the 350 forts in Maharashtra. It is situated in Konkan, Agashi village. May , as per the village name it had been name. It was now , totally ruined. It was believed that it was present during the ruling period of king Bimb.
It should be located in area where now, Bhawani Shankar temple and its adjoining lake is available. While , construction of Lake they found some ruined stones and idols. This proves the existence of in this area.
HISTORY
In record after the victory of chimaji appa on Vasai Fort hi build Shri Bhawani Shankar temple and adjacent fort. It was built in period of 1739 to 1750.
It was built by Shri Shankar ji Keshav Phadke , chief commander of chimaji appa for Agashi- arnala region. Bhawani lake is also built in same period, it was not known that fort was built in that era or before it. But ruins proved the presence of fort . The sculptures and carving in this lake are still present in lake. For renovation of beauty some parts of temple was also destroyed.
Even fort doesn't exist there. It is a beautiful historical place to visit.
