AHMEDNAGAR FORT: ONE OF 350 FORTS.
Ahmednagar Fort is a Fort located in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra . Currently , the Fort is under the administration of the armour corp of Indian army.
Geography And Location.
It is located near Bhingarnala. It was headquarter of the Ahmednagar Sultanate. In 1883 the Fort is captured by British during second Anglo Maratha war and were used as prison. It was used as present during the British reign . It was a land Fort. It had towering roofs and firm bastions. Its circumference is about 1.70 km in circumference and is strengthend buy 24 bastions. It is surrounded by a moat, but now its dry. It's about 30 m wide and 4 to 6 m deep. Presently, it is under an Indian military command
History
It was currently in under the administration of the armour corps of
Indian army , but it was constructed by Nizam Shah in 1569 AD. Its construction was started in 1559 AD but constructed in 1562AD. As it , took 4 years for construction.

In 1569, Chand Bibi the queen successfully repels the Mughal invasion. In 1600, Fort finally came under the Mughals while the reign of Akbar . After the death of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb it pass to nizams again in 1724 and there in hands of Maratha in 1759 . After that it had been owned by scindas in 1790. Then it had been owned by British in 1857. It was used by them for prison work .Nehru, Abul Kalam Azad, sardar Patel and other members are kept here in prison.
Now it is in good condition. It is open for public between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ,so visit us can visit and experience the beauty of the fort and place.
