      ANKAI FORT is one of the 350 forts in Maharashtra and historical place and best site to tour. So let's recollect the information about AnKai fort.



GEOGRAPHICAL AREA

          Ankai fort is located in beautiful satamala hill ranges which makes look more beautiful with the nature. Basically ,it is located in the western India that is in a yeola taluka, Nashik district ,Maharashtra.
         

 
         Simply it is near Manmad i.e approx 8.4 km that's only 17 minute away from Manmad.

         Ankai and Tankai fort are located on the adjacent hill. They both have common fortification as one can easily visit from one fort to another. Generally , they are called as Ankai- Tankai.
     
         It is one of the most tallest and strongest fort in the district. It is a hill fort .It is about 3200 feet high. It is perpendicular scrap to the hill. It is made up of stone.
        

         There are Jain caves at the foot hill of the fort. There are two caves at a foot hill while at upper level there are five caves. They feature the Mahavir idol as well as carving of yaksha Indrani lotus and lord Mahavir.
      

         At the south of the hill there is a main gate and the Manmad gate is on the Northern side of the hill. Manmad gate is facing the Manmad City.
       

       Where as Brahmani caves are near the entrance gate to the upper plateau of fort. We can see here ,the rock carving of Jay and Vijay.

      The fort had been blessed with natures beauty. Palace and Kashipur one can find on the Western edge with walls of palace. There is series of Rock cut water cisterns on Southern side.

HISTORY

        It is believed that Augusthi Rishi ashram was present, here.
        It is constructed about thousand years ago. It is built by Yadavas of devgiri.
      


       Mughal emperor Shah Jahan general Khan captured in 1635 by bribing, here. Nothing has been mention about fort in year 1665 due to the stage of journey between cities of Surat and Aurangabad. But only it is mention that Nizam had  captured it.

       In 1752 under control of Maratha empire due to the treaty of bhalki. In 1818 British captured it .

TODAY'S CONDITION

         Today it is under the Indian government but its condition is still ruin. Now it is open for public. It is one of the pilgrimage centre. It is free of cost to visit .There is not availability of water and any other item.


BEST TIME TO VISIT

          The best time to visit here is between the month of September to December.One should visit here by morning for trekking. But ,one should not prefer to visit here in summer as it is a high fort.

HOW TO REACH 

           As usual there are three ways to reach. The nearest town to the fort is Manmad. About 97 KM from Nashik and Ankai village is about 10 km from Manmad. Easy way to reach here is through Manmad and other way is through Lasalgaon - Payoda or via Yeola.
        

By Bus:-

          One can visit Manmad and from there one can visit there it may cost at least 400RS to reach the fort.

By Private Vehicle :- 

          By a private vehicle you can travel or by cab also. It is only about 8 km

By Air :-

         One have to visit to Aurangabad. From the Aurangabad airport fort is about 122 km. And from there you have to appoint a director or bus.


         Trekking starts from the unky village it takes about 3 hours to climb and 2 hours to visit all the places.

         It is good to visit this fort. One can enjoy here natural environment which is  noise and pollution free. It will help you to interact with nature.
