 AMBOLGAD:- ONE         OF 350 FORTS

      It is situated in place name ambolgad, Ratnagiri . So it is called as ambolgad Fort. It is also known as Rajapur Fort.
      

      Now let's see  in detail.
   

Geography And Location

       It is one of the sea fort. Its height is approx 1200 square metre from main sea level. It has see guarding from South ,deep moats in north and West small part of fortification and sidewall visible from there. It look as square. Remanants and plinths of various construction, we can see on the fort. Math of Gagan Giri Maharaj is situated near Fort. It is easy to climb but now it is ruined.
      We can see various animals like monkey, squirrel ,etc and plants like mango ,coconut, cashew, banyan and hirda. If one had luck one can see dolphins there.


History

        Its builder is unknown but it is believed that it is built during Maratha rule. It is built to keep eye on ancient port of muskan ji and surrounding seas. Col.Imlock captured it for British in 1818. But after it is surrender by British. It is believed that ,residential portion on fort was shifted completely in 1862.

Todays Condition


It is very poor now. It is ruined. It has no accommodation facility. If one wants to stay he can stay at Gagan Giri mutt. No arrangement of food and water on the Fort.One should Carry their own food and water.

How To Reach

 By Air :-  

            Mumbai Airport is nearest to                   ambolgad.

By  Rail :-

          No station is near than 10 km . Ratnagiri railway station is reachable by near by town .

By Road :- 

            Mumbai Ambolgad distance is about 610 km . Two easy ways :-
 1. Ratnagiri - Adivare - Nate - Ambolgad
 2. Raja pur - Nate - Ambolgad.

          One can visit Yashwantgad Fort and via reach  Ambolgad.
        Via Anushkra gate it take 3 and 1/2 hours to reach beach side .
