AJINKYATARA:- ONE OF 350 FORTS.
Ajinkya Tara its name itself tells us too much. Ajinkyatara means impregnable stars. It is a Fort on one of the seven mountains surrounding the city of Satara in Sahyadri mountains of Maharashtra , India. It's one of the four from 16 century.
GEOGRAPHY AND LOCATION.
The Fort is a hill Fort. Its height it is about 4400 feet . The material used for construction of fort was stone and lead. This fort was built by Raja bhoj is believed.
To reach , it is 2 hours away from Pune and 4 hours from Mumbai. The best time to visit Ajinkyatara fort from November to February.
HISTORY
It is 16 century fort. It was in hand of Aurangzeb and was known as Azamtara in name of his son shahzada Azam. Before this it was in hand of Shivaji Maharaj and after Aurangzeb captured it. It was captured by Maharani Tarabai. After 1818 it was under the control of British. Now ,it was owned by government of India and is in good state .
